Fifty Fifty (NZ) (Thorn Park) has not been seen in action since finishing eighth in the Gr.2 Chairman’s Trophy (1600m) in April.

The Peter Ho-trained six-year-old suffered lameness at the end of that month and was sidelined for the most part until he returned to work in August and will resume in the Gr.3 Celebration Cup Handicap (1400m) at Sha Tin Racecourse on Monday, 1 October..

Grant Van Niekerk partnered Fifty Fifty to “win” a recent 1200m dirt barrier trial and is confident that his mount will confirm his Group One class this term.

“I barrier trialled him and he did that so well, he won it comfortably,” Van Niekerk said. “He’s a horse that gave me a very good feel and I’m very excited to ride him.

“Peter Ho told me that the horse loves running fresh and that’s what he felt like, so I’m hoping for a great run on him.”
