One more run for Suttons stars

Dominic Sutton will give his two youngsters who have given him a flying start to his training career one more run each before they are spelled ahead of spring.

After only saddling up his first starter on March 8, Sutton has made a spectacular start to his training career with Feroce (NZ) (Super Seth) winning at Pakenham and then Caulfield and filly Khadime scoring at Sandown last week.

Both horses will now head to feature races at the end of the month, with Feroce to head to Flemington to run in the Listed Anzac Day Stakes (1400m) on April 25, before Khadime becomes his first Group runner in the G3 Breeder’s Stakes (1200m) on April 27 at Morphettville.

Sutton said Feroce has taken improvement from his two runs and should be suited by 1400 metres.

“It will be a good test to see whether we can stretch him out further in distance in the spring,” he said.

“That will be it for him and it will be the same for Khadime (Star Turn) as she will also complete her campaign in Adelaide and come back for the spring.”

Sutton believes Khadime is a sprinting type and so he will restrict her to races no more than 1400m in the spring.

He also went close to training his fourth winner with only his 10th runner at Morphettville last Saturday, as Garachico was beaten in a photo finish when he contested a 2500-metre race.

“He’s a real grinder and he’ll be even better over more ground,” Sutton said.

Both Feroce and Khadime were sold through the draft of Kilgravin Lodge at last years Ready To Run sale for $160,000 and $200,000 respectively to Sutton Racing and McKeever Bloodstock.
