Unbeaten Globe to be aimed at Cox Plate

Mick Price intends to chance his arm over spring with his undefeated galloper Globe (NZ) (Charm Spirit), with the goal of a start in the Cox Plate at The Valley.

Price is eyeing off a start in the Feehan Stakes (1600m) with Globe at The Valley in September in a bid to gain the golden ticket into the Cox Plate (2040 metres) on October 28.

“He’s a 90 rate, so weight-for-age could be over placing him, but if he wants to run in a race like the Cox Plate, that’s the path we could go down,” Price said.

“He’s one of our most interesting horses. We did a DNA test on him and the perfect distance for him is 2000 metres.”

“The Feehan is a win and you’re in race so that’s a path we will look at,” the co-trainer said.

Price said his other option towards the Cox Plate was to try and win the Gr.1 Toorak Handicap at Caulfield on October 14 and hope he could secure a start with a win in that.

Globe set tongues wagging over with his four wins from four starts by a cumulative 13.7 lengths. His previous two wins were all-the-way victories over 1800m at Sandown Hillside by four lengths on each occasion, with the last one on May 6.

Price said Globe had missed a week after a blood test showed a virus, but he had bounced back since.

Globe is out of Bonnie Doon (NZ) (Don Eduardo), who is a full-sister to dual Group One winner Booming (NZ). He was purchased at the 2020 New Zealand Bloodstock Book 2 Sale from the draft of Cambria Park for $22,000.
