I Wish I Win best in the land

I Wish I Win (NZ) (Savabeel) is the best horse in Southern Hemisphere, according to the latest edition of the Longines World’s Best Racehorse Rankings for 2023, which was released early on Friday morning.

Waikato Stud and Peter Moody’s exciting galloper earned that honour with a rating of 121, following on from his thrilling victory in the Gr.1 T.J. Smith Stakes (1200m) at Randwick in April.

That rating of 121 makes him the equal 16th best racehorse in the world, a mark that he shares with recent Queen Anne Stakes winner Triple Time and John and Thady Gosden’s top mare Emily Upjohn.

I Wish I Win’s rating has him marginally ahead of Australian gallopers Giga Kick and the now retired Anamoe, who were both given a rating of 120 that marks them as the equal 21st best gallopers on the planet.

Hong Kong’s best middle-distance galloper and current Cox Plate favourite Romantic Warrior sits in the top 10 in the rankings, sharing seventh spot on a rating of 123.

The outright leader in the rankings is Japanese superstar Equinox, who was invited by the Moonee Valley Racing Club to contest the Cox Plate following his victory in the Gr.1 Takarazuka Kinen at Hanshin last month.
