The Waikato Stud-bred and raced I Wish I Win is thriving ahead of the A$10 million Golden Eagle (1500m) at Rosehill on Saturday according to his trainer Peter Moody.

The champion trainer part-owns the four-year-old son Savabeel who has thrived since joining his Pakenham barn as a Group One performer in his native New Zealand and will jump from barrier 14 with Luke Nolen to ride.

I Wish I Win recorded victories in his first two starts in Australia, including the Listed Testa Rossa Stakes (1300m), and ran fifth when favourite in the Gr.1 Toorak Handicap (1600m) at Caulfield last start.

Moody, who has three runners in the lucrative race which is restricted to four-year-olds, said there is not much between his top mare Chain Of Lightning ($5) and I Wish I Win ($10), with Lightsaber ($201) an outsider.

“If it came down to raw ability, I would have to say I Wish I Win is the pick of mine at the moment. He has absolutely thrived since his Toorak run,” Moody told his podcast Moody on the Mic.

“But looking at the barrier draws, it probably swings me back ever so slightly to Chain Of Lightning (2), just thinking that she is going to get an uncomplicated run.”

“My two are going there with no excuses. I believe they are both good enough. What gets luck in the running will run extremely well.”

European visitor Light Infantry, a last start runner-up to Inspiral in the Gr.1 Prix Jacques Le Marois (1600m) is the $3.90 favourite in the 20-horse field.
