The former Nigel Tiley-trained stayer Kissinger (NZ) (Tavistock) continues to make positive strides under new trainer Lindsey Smith, winning the Cassign Harry Chauvel BM64 Handicap (2000m) at Warrnambool on Sunday.

In doing so, the son of Tavistock advanced his career record to four wins and two placings from eight starts, with Smith excited by the future for the lightly-tried five-year-old.

Ridden by apprentice Laura Lafferty, Kissinger overcame the outside barrier and a wide berth early and lumped 61.5kg to victory.

“I think it was a better win than the margin suggests,” Smith said.

“He’s worked for most of the race. That’s what happens when you draw the outside. He got a little bit weary the last little bit, but he’ll have a rest now.

“He’s a nice horse and we’ll get him in the Terang Cup and hopefully that leapfrogs him into the Warrnambool Cup (A$250,000, 2350m).

“I think he can come back and improve. I quite like his chances.”

Sporting the colours of Spicer Thoroughbreds, Tiley and his wife Lee remain in the ownership of the progressive galloper, as they do with stablemate Riding The Wave, who has also made a favourable impression from his new quarters with Smith.
