She's Alight shines brightly at Ascot

Five-year-old mare She’s Alight (NZ) (Tavistock) picked up some valuable black-type for connections when winning the Listed Jungle Dawn Classic (1400m) at Ascot in Perth on Saturday.

The Alan Mathews-trained mare pushed forward to trail the leader Sophie’s Song (Rogano) and took the lead early in the straight before staving off her rivals to deny Special Choice (Redoute’s Choice) and Chantrea (Puissance de Lune) in a blanket finish.

Purchased by bloodstock agent John Chalmers for $65,000 out of the Cambridge Stud draft at the 2017 New Zealand Bloodstock Premier Yearling Sale, She’s Alight advanced her record to seven wins, one second and three thirds from 19 starts with earnings of $194,720.

Bred by Sir Patrick and Lady Hogan, She’s Alight is a sister to the stakes-placed Midnitemagicman (NZ) and becomes the 24th individual stakes winner for the late stallion Tavistock.

She is one of seven winners out of the Keeper mare Keep Alight (NZ), a three-quarter sister to Gr.1 New Zealand Two Thousand Guineas (1600m) winner Danske (NZ) (Danehill) and a half-sister to dual Listed winner Eagle Rhythm (NZ) (Rhythm).

Keep Alight is a daughter of the outstanding Sir Tristram mare Tristalight (NZ) the winner of the Gr.1 Australasian Oaks and Gr.1 South Australian Oaks.

Cambridge Stud consigned a sister to She’s Alight at the 2020 NZB Karaka Yearling Sale where she was knocked down to Platinum Thoroughbreds for $45,000.

Not covered in 2019, the 17-year-old Keep Alight was served by Tarzino last year.
