The Waterhouse and Bott trained Group 1 winner English was retired on Monday with owners Newhaven Park Stud sending the six-year-old Encosta de Lago mare to stud to be mated by I Am Invincible.

English, the winner of the 2016 Group 1 All Aged Stakes over 1400m at Randwick and 2018 Group 1 Doomben 10,000 over 1200m at Doomben, raced 27 times for six wins and five placings earning stakes of $3,480,071.

Her remarkable career included a second to Vancouver in the 2015 Group 1 Golden Slipper over 1200m at Rosehill. The amre contested the Group 1 TJ Smith Stakes over 120m at Randwick in the autumn three times for a second and third, each time to the also recently retired Chautauqua.

The mare, out of the Anabaa mare Court, consistently raced at elite level. She was sixth in the first running of The Everest invitaion race over 1200m at Randwick this time last year and she was an early invitee to run in this year's renewal of the race.

However lameness issues prevented her from taking her place and she was withdrawn last week.
