Trainer Darren Weir's record-breaking season has fallen one win shy of an astonishing 450 wins after he landed a winning treble at the final meeting in Victoria at Mildura.

Weir smashed his own Australian record of 348 winners set last season with his tally for 2016-17 including a record 137 metropolitan winners in Melbourne.

The season drew to a close with Harry Coffey piloting the Weir-trained Pharja, Bonus D'Oro and Crafty Devil to their wins at Mildura.

WEIR'S YEAR:

* 449 wins (up from 348 last season)

* 2,686 starters (up from 2,209)

* Prize-money A$24.6 million (up from A$21.8m)

* 31 Group races including eight Group Ones

* Won in every state including his only West Australia start, the Kingston Town Classic

* Prepared winners at 53 tracks

RECORDS BROKEN:

* 137 wins in Melbourne broke Lee Freedman's Victorian metropolitan record of 115 in 2005-06

* Broke John Hawkes' Commonwealth training record of 334 last year, also the first to crack 400

* Won 14 of the 30 races at Warrnambool's May Carnival
