Rachael Murray has turned a low-key bush race meeting into a history-making one for female jockeys in New South Wales.

Murray became the first female jockey in the state to ride a 100 winners in a season when she won on the Paul Perry-trained Petrossian at Tamworth. In a deceptive finish, Petrossian edged out the favourite Fickle Folly.

Murray's achievement surpasses the record of 87 races held by Linda Meech in 2006-07. Her Tamworth win cements her position in top five on the New South Wales premiership.

Murray becomes the fifth jockey in New South Wales to ride 100 winners this season, joining Jeff Penza, Brenton Avdulla, Tim Clark and Grey Ryan.

"Wow, who would have ever thought? Finally," Murray said. "It's fantastic. And on one of my very old favourites. So good to me, that horse."
