Winx has confirmed her place as the modern-day great of Australian racing, winning the Queen Elizabeth Stakes to make it 17 victories on end.

In overtaking the champion New Zealand mare Sunline to secure second place on the all-time prize-money list for Australasian racehorses, Winx signed off on a four-start autumn campaign with barely a moment's worry.

In front of a Randwick crowd out in force to watch the world's best horse on turf, Winx easily defeated Hartnell with Sense Of Occasion finishing in the minor placing ahead of The United States.

The five-year-old has won won almost A$12.8 million and she is within striking distance of leading stakes earner Makybe Diva who banked more than A$14.5 million during a career which included three Melbourne Cup wins.

Winx raced in midfield before Hugh Bowman sent her forward at the 600 metres to get on terms with Hartnell, who had taken the lead from the longshot No Doubt. Winx had edged clear with 300 metres to run and 100 metres later she extended to put the race beyond doubt.

Trainer Chris Waller was in her awe of what Winx can do to Australia's best weight-for-age horses.

"She makes anything look perfect really," he said. "She makes me look like a genius and Huey does a great job but I think it should all be about Winx."
