Globe off to spelling paddock

The unbeaten Globe (NZ) (Charm Spirit) will not race again this season, with co-trainer Mick Price keen to send the promising galloper to the spelling paddock on a high.

The son of Charm Spirit made it four wins from as many starts last Saturday at Ladbrokes Park Sandown, but Price said the horse had indicated to him and regular rider Celine Gaudray that he is now looking for a break after four runs across seven weeks.

“He’s fine but I just thought there were some signs that this would be his last run for the campaign,” said Price, who trains in partnership with Michael Kent Jnr.

“He was a little bit stressed going out of the mounting yard, a little bit stressed behind the barriers and in the gates.

“Celine (Gaudray) has the experience now to identify a change in behaviour and he raced a little aggressive early.

“He’s pulled up super, no problem but he’s had a good prep and got himself to a Benchmark of 90 with some prizemoney ($156,000), so we’ll give him a nice, long break and work out what class and distance we can target in the spring.”

Globe has proven one of the finds of the autumn, with the $22,000 yearling purchase winning his four races from a distance range of 1400 to 1800 metres by a combined 14 lengths.
