Owner-trainer Taylor Burnett’s gavelhouse.com purchase Gifted has proved just that with the $2,500 mare recording her second win since her move South while taking her earnings since being bought in May 2018 to $30,000.

Gifted is one of two gavelhouse.com buys Burnett has in work with the other, $1,200 buy Heart of Fame, having since broken maiden ranks to return triple his purchase price.

“Gifted raced a fortnight ago on a Dead4 for a second and she likes it a bit softer so the Slow3 was perfect for her,” commented Burnett of Saturday’s victory over 1400m at Riccarton.

Racing wide throughout the journey with Tanya Jonker in the saddle, the pair hit the front early and were able to hold the field off for the victory.

“I was a bit worried they may have hit the front a bit early but she’s a tough mare and ran the line down.”

“She’s pulled up super it’s like she didn’t race, it’s like nothing’s happened.”

“We will see how she goes and perhaps line her up for Ashburton early next month. After that we will look to aim for Grand National Week with her.”

Gifted was sold on account of Wellfield Lodge having won one for Kevin Gray with the daughter of Alamosa out of stakes-placed Groom Dancer mare Her Hidden Talent.
