Prominent owner and breeder David Archer tasted further Australian success on Saturday when the Tony Pike trained The Bostonian landed the Gr.3 Sunshine Coast Guineas (1600m).
Out of a half-sister to Archer’s ten-time Group One winner Mufhasa, who raced as King Mufhasa in Australia, The Bostonian has now won all three of his Queensland starts, amassing A$200,000 in prizemoney.
“The Pike team have done an amazing job. The horse is in wonderful condition considering he had been seven months without a race prior to going over there,” Archer said.
“He was injured in the New Zealand Guineas back in November.
“He’s been winning from outside barriers, inside barriers, winning from the front, wet tracks, dry tracks — he’s been the consummate little racehorse and given us a lot of fun.
The Bostonian has gone for a spell in Queensland while his connections mull over plans for his next preparation.
“We’re just hopeful the boy stays well,” Archer said. “If he does, he’s exciting because each start he just seems to go one grade better. He’s a horse that just loves racing.”
The son of Jimmy Choux is not the only horse to carry Archer’s silks to victory across the Tasman this season, with Sir Charles Road also successful in the Gr.2 Chairman's Quality (2600m) during The Championships.
“They have done us proud. We’ve had four wins and a third in the Sydney Cup between them,” Archer said.
