Aide Memoire will be aiming to pick up the first win of her Australian career when she competes in the Elite Haulage Handicap (1200m) at Randwick on Saturday.

The Remind six-year-old mare won seven of her 21 New Zealand career starts for trainer Fraser Auret, including the Gr.1 Captain Cook Stakes (1600m).

She has finished unplaced in each of her five Australian starts for trainer Kris Lees, but he is confident she will break that dry spell with a suitable track on Saturday.

“The owners sent her over here hoping to get that wet autumn that we’ve consistently had but unfortunately for this mare it didn’t pan out that way this year,” Lees said.

“She’s going to get her preferred surface on Saturday and I think you’ll see a big improvement, although 1200m is well short of her best. I’ve added blinkers to her gear to keep her focused over the shorter trip.

“I said to the owners that I couldn’t take the punt and wait for the Civic Stakes next week because it could dry out by then.

“She’s got a great wet track record and everyone who rides her says she will feel a lot more comfortable on that type of ground.”
