Southern sprinter Secret Power is taking full advantage of his favourite underfoot conditions.

He has won two of his last three starts on rain-affected ground and will strike similar going when he steps out in the Wild Range Photography Handicap (1400m) at Wingatui on Saturday.

“He’s been a good horse to us and he loves the wet tracks,” trainer Anna Hewitson said.

“During the summer he jarred up so we turned him out and he’s come back so well.”

Secret Power proved that point with open handicap wins at Riverton and Southland last month and most recently he finished third, again at Southland.

“He’s trained on well since and we’ll just take it race by race with him,” Hewitson said.

“There’s plenty of options coming up. He’s a good traveller so we’ll box on over the winter.”

Secret Power has now won 10 races and the Sakhee’s Secret seven-year-old shows no signs of slowing up.

“He always tries really hard and he loves being in work and racing,” Hewitson said.

Secret Power will be ridden by the in-form apprentice Tina Comignaghi.

“She’s never ridden for me before so I’m lucky to get her,” Hewitson said.
