An erratic path in the straight wasn’t enough to stop Stolen Gem winning on debut at Pukekohe Park.

The Snitzel filly veered out badly, but still got the thick end of the stake in Wednesday’s Haunui Farm 2YO (1200m).

“I lost sight of her – she was in the middle of the track at one point and then on the outside fence, but she got the job done,” said Peter Williams, who trains with his wife Dawn.

Stolen Gem had won at the Te Aroha trials last month under Mark Du Plessis, who again took the reins.

“She was more professional at the trials than at the races, but two-year-olds can do that,” Williams said.
