A stakes test awaits Lord Sibford in the immediate future with an ambitious long-term plan ahead of the rising four-year-old.

The son of Darci Brahma will attempt to complete a hat-trick of wins when he runs in the Goldpine Timaru 1600 on Sunday as a lead in to the Gr.3 eStar Winter Cup on Saturday week.

“I really like him, he keeps stepping up and after every race his attitude improves,” Waiuku trainer Sean Cameron said.

“He just keeps getting better and better and I’d love to see him in the Singapore Derby next year. I’d have to give him away for that, but I’m trying to do the best for my owner.”

Bred by Cliff Matson who has retained an ownership interest, Lord Sibford has been successful in three of his 12 starts and he has been untested to win his last two appearances at Oamaru and Ashburton.

“I’ve got 12 horses down here and he’s got the best constitution of them all,” Cameron said. “He’s a very mature horse and nothing fazes him.”

While Lord Sibford has a current rating of 72, Cameron doesn’t believe he will struggle to make the Winter Cup field.

“It’s fallen away a bit and he’s 21 in order at the moment,” he said. “I don’t think he necessarily has to win on Sunday to get in.”

Lord Sibford is out of a half-sister to the multiple Group One winner Silent Achiever and Cameron is confident the gelding will excel over more ground.

“He’s a half-brother to Cruiser, who’s won a Stratford Cup, and to Opera Knight who could stay so this horse will get 2000 metres no problem,” he said.
