Time and rising southern staying star Patrick Erin have been best mates and Shane Anderton doesn't see that changing.
"Last season he was just dumb and green, but this year he's doing things right and he'll continue to get better," said Anderton, who trains the son of Gallant Guru with his father Brian.
"He's grown mentally and he's come through the grades pretty quickly."
Patrick Erin won the Wyndham Cup in his open class debut earlier this month and on Saturday he added the Listed Carriers Arms Hotel Riverton Cup to his record at his 15th appearance.
The five-year-old was given a good run with cover near the pace by Shankar Muniandy and rounded off strongly in the straight.
"He's really stepped up and won well," Anderton said. "We were confident he was in the right order and that's his swansong – he can go out for a good spell now. We'll be looking at the big cups when he comes back."
Topweight Revelator finished runner-up for the third consecutive time with another game performance and Motorboat Mike ran third.
La Nouvelle Vague was fourth ahead of Miss Three Stars, who was bidding for her third win on the bounce in the cup.
In the Bupa Care Services Francolin Stakes, Twoznotenough made an immediate impact from her new quarters with a defeat of Flying Sardine in the fillies and mares' feature.
The six-year-old was making her first appearance for Riccarton trainer Les Didham after winning five times from the Taranaki stable of Allan Sharrock.
