Tavidream will have his classic hopes tested at his next appearance.

Tavidream - Trish Dunell

The talented three-year-old will step up to a middle distance for the first time in the Gr.2 Valachi Downs Championship Stakes at Ellerslie on April 22.

"We want to try him over a trip at home and then we'll think about Brisbane and the Derby there for him," said Donna Logan, who trains the Tavistock gelding with Chris Gibbs.

Tavidream had also been in the running for a trip to Sydney for Saturday's Gr.3 Frank Packer Plate at Randwick, but the weather washed out that plan.

"It's just too wet for him in Sydney," Logan said.

Tavidream has been successful in four of his six starts and last time out he completed a hat-trick of Ellerslie wins, all at the expense of the older horses.

The stable will have quality representation in all feature events at the upcoming Auckland meeting with All Roads to contest the Gr.2 Manco Easter Stakes and the exciting Qiji Phoenix to run in the Listed Diamond Lodge Champagne Stakes.

"A decision on which direction we take with All Roads will be made after the Easter," Logan said.

A last-start winner of the Gr.2 Japan/New Zealand International Trophy, the five-year-old is another in the mix for a trip to the Queensland winter carnival, as is the unbeaten Qiji Phoenix.

"He's a very smart horse and after the Champagne we'd like to have a crack at the Group One in Brisbane," said Logan, referring to the J.J. Atkins at Eagle Farm on June 10.

Raced by Chinese businessman Fudong Niu, Qiji Phoenix has been impressive in each of his wins at Te Rapa and at Ellerslie.
