A tactically-superb ride that led to Hiflyer's six-length win at Te Rapa on Saturday has given former champion apprentice Rory Hutchings a timely boost as he returns to riding in Sydney.

Hutchings, 21, flew to Sydney on Sunday as he prepares to ride at Warwick Farm on Wednesday, when his rides will include the James Cummings-trained Gid Up Strop.

"I'm straight back into it. I felt the time was right with my weight coming back down and I've got that spark and determination back for Sydney which went away a little before I came back to New Zealand," Hutchings said.

"Hiflyer was a big confidence boost as I hadn't done a lot of riding since the end of November through suspension and weight issues. I don't see any reason why he couldn't measure up over here. He has a lot of ability and I think he could go to Group One level in time."
