Trainer Craig Phelan has experienced a solid Australian campaign with consistent galloper Our Big Mike, but is looking for a breakthrough victory in his final start across the Tasman this Saturday.

The son of Don Eduardo has recorded two placings from as many starts in Australia in the last month and will line-up in the Pakenham Cup (2500m) this weekend.

“Our Big Mike will race in the Pakenham Cup, we’ll probably bring him home after that,” stable representative Emily Farr said.

His connections were pleased with his third-placing in the Adapt Australia Handicap (2040m) at Moonee Valley on Saturday and are hoping he can go two better on Saturday.

“At Moonee Valley he was very good. He was tough and brave as always,” she said.

“The Pakenham Cup is a little bit further. Hopefully he’ll just stride along in front and they might not be able to pick him up this time.

“He seems to have come through the race on Saturday very well. He loves it over here which is great. He’s a good traveler and is very happy.”
