In A Twinkling, who did best of Jamie Richards’ three-pronged attack on last Saturday’s Gr.1 Al Basti Equiworld New Zealand 2000 Guineas (1600m) at Riccarton, is on the Derby path.

The son of Fastnet Rock followed up a second in the Listed Zacinto Stakes (1600m) with a fourth in the Guineas, two and three-quarter lengths behind the winner Madison County.

“In A Twinkling went an honest race and will have a break at Te Akau now then be put on a Derby path,” Richards said.

“He’s out of a staying mare so should be better suited over ground.”

Sword Of Osman, winner of the Gr.2 James and Annie Sarten Memorial Stakes (1400m) last month, finished seventh in the 2000 Guineas.

“I thought Sword Of Osman went okay,” Richards said. “The race was run on a soft track and he was three-deep without cover. We’ll give him a break before deciding what to do with him.”

Publicist, a maiden winner at Ashburton, finished 10th but did pick up $6000 in the 2000 Guineas.

“Publicist was a bit out-classed,” Richards said. “He’s going to be all right, but is just a bit immature.”
