The nine-year-old gelding jumped well from the ace barrier and Bholah made it a staying test for the 12 horse field, setting a strong pace throughout to win by six lengths.

“I judged the pace and it paid off,” said Bholah, who previously rode in Mauritius.

“It was a big stress (trying to get my first winner), but now I feel the pressure has now gone.

“I am very happy, it is my first win here in New Zealand. I have to thank the Tyler family, they have helped me a lot, along with Mr (David) Walsh my riding master.

“It is a good experience to be here in New Zealand, I am very happy.”
