Last-start Grand National Hurdles (4200m) winner Jack Frost will have a final hit-out at Ashburton on Thursday before heading north to compete in the Great Northern Hurdle (4150m) at Te Aroha next month.

The Gallant Guru eight-year-old will line-up in the Massey Fergusson and Fendt at JJ 2100m where he will be joined by stablemate Satin Guru.

“He seems as bright as a button and I’m really happy with him,” said Brian Anderton, who trains the gelding in partnership with son Shane.

“Satin Guru is going into tomorrow on the fresh side, but he is a handy horse and capable of running a nice race.”

Anderton said he was proud of Jackfrost’s Grand National Hurdle victory and is hoping he can retain his winning ways leading into the Great Northern Hurdle.

“To think that I’d been away on holiday in Australia for six weeks and then I was crook when I got home. Shane did a marvelous job and I was so proud of him and the horse (after the Grand National Hurdles win).”
