John Bell will take care of business at home with Julius before pondering an overseas venture.

Big targets ahead for Julius - Trish Dunell

The Cambridge trainer has a three-race domestic campaign mapped out for the exciting son of Swiss Ace, hopefully culminating in the Gr.1 Tarzino Trophy (1400m).

“There’s an invite come through for Hong Kong and that has to be looked at seriously,” Bell said.

The race in question is the Gr.1 Hong Kong Sprint (1200m) at Sha Tin in December.

“We’re looking to run him at Te Rapa on August 4 over 1200m and on to the Foxbridge Plate and then have a crack at the Tarzino Trophy,” Bell said.

“He’s a big, powerful boy who never gives in, but I don’t know if he’d get into the 1400m at Hastings. He’s well down the list at the moment, but maybe a few will drop out.”

Victory in the Gr.2 Lisa Chittick Foxbridge Plate (1200m) at Te Rapa on August 18 would ensure Julius gets his opportunity in the Gr.1 Tarzino Trophy (1400m) at Hawke’s Bay a fortnight later.
