Lightly-raced six-year-old Dez won’t race again before next month’s Gr.3 Winter Cup (1600m) at Riccarton.

“We’re thinking that way and his rating (83) is what it is, if it looks like he’ll get in we’ll probably go,” part-owner and trainer Simon Wilson said.

The son of Zed moved into a single figure quote for the Cup following his Trentham success last Saturday in the Whyte Handicap (1600m) and is now on the third line of betting on $8 behind the $5 favourite Red Sierra.

“He’s come through that run really well,” Wilson said.

Dez has won four of his eight starts with his last two successes coming this preparation following a two and a-half year break with a tendon injury.
