Jacksstar and Rock On earned black type staying victories for the Awapuni trainer before being side-lined by tendon injuries.

“Jacksstar started work a week ago and he’s doing very well,” Vile said.

The rising seven-year-old has won six of his 31 starts, including the Gr.3 Manawatu Cup (2300m) and finished runner-up in both the Gr.3 Wellington Cup (3200m) and the Listed Marton Cup (2200m).

Jacksstar suffered his injury when finishing third in last year’s Gr.1 Auckland Cup (3200m) behind Chenille.

“He’s had the stem cell surgery and it’s been a long wait with him, but he’s sound and happy now,” Vile said.

This season’s Gr.1 Auckland Cup had been the target for Rock On before he broke down during a routine track gallop in January.

“He’s been on the walker at (part-owners) Wellfield Lodge for 15 minutes a day and he’ll do a bit more and he’ll be back in the stable at the end of the month,” Vile said.

The son of Road To Rock has won five races and showed his staying potential with a victory in the Listed New Zealand St Leger (2500m) that earned him an autumn trip across the Tasman in 2017.

He finished third in the Gr.2 Chairman’s Handicap (2600m) and Randwick and also placed over 2500m at Flemington.

Rock On hasn’t raced since he ran fourth in the Waikato Cup (2400m) last December.
