Two below-par runs from the capable Banbury Lad have almost certainly forced a different role upon the Mitchelson Cup (2200m) winner.

Banbury Lad - Trish Dunell

He beat only one runner home in the Kiwifruit Cup (2100m) two runs back and at Te Aroha on Friday he finished eighth against modest highweight company in the Te Aroha Liquor 2200m.

“I said to my partners that if he can’t win this he’ll be going over hurdles next start,” part-owner and trainer Rudy Liefting said.

Banbury Lad shows promise as a jumper, having won a hurdle trial at Cambridge last Monday by 25 lengths.
