In-form rider Jasmine Fawcett is transferring her apprenticeship to Matamata trainer Toby Autridge.

The 24-year-old, who is currently indentured to Jim Collett, will continue her break-out season from her new quarters as from Monday.

“This will be new to us and our first apprentice,” Autridge’s wife Debbie said. “Jasmine is very eager to learn more and while we’re a smaller stable, she will be able to ride trackwork for as many other trainers as possible.”

Fawcett posted her 47th winner for the season when she guided the Karyn McQuade-trained Shellez Ace to a hollow victory in the Fairview Hawera Insert Windows Handicap (1300m) at Hawera this afternoon.

They sat outside the pace and, after taking control 300m from home, cruised clear to beat Cool Moon by a wide margin. The disappointment of the race was Longchamp, who got away with a soft lead but showed no fight in the straight and dropped away to beat just one runner home.

Fawcett is in her third season of riding and is currently second on the apprentices’ premiership behind the now Sydney-based Sam Weatherley, whose New Zealand tally for 2017-18 stands at 66.
