Darci Mac will continue his build-up to next month's Listed Powerworx Opunake Cup (1400m) when he tackles the open sprint at Hawera on Friday.

The Allan Sharrock-trained Darci Brahma gelding is shooting for back-to-back wins in the race, to be run this year as the Fairview Hawera Insert Windows 1300m, after winning the race when it was run at Otaki last year.

“He's gone super first-up behind New York Minute, who is a freak in bad ground, and he's trained on well,” Sharrock said.

“He's a shade below those really good ones, but he's not a bad horse himself and we'll look at the Opunake Cup for him next month on his home track.”

Sharrock will produce five runners at Hawera, with Look West, Jackson Road, You'll Do Me and Grinner slated for the undercard.
