Proven mudlark Trisha Lea is set to go deep into the winter.

Trainer Kylie Little has mapped out a programme through to the end of next month for the in-form mare and will then look at her remaining options.

“She’ll head to Awapuni for an open handicap on Saturday and two weeks later to Hastings,” she said.

“It will be on to the Parliamentary Handicap at Trentham and hopefully the Taumarunui Gold Cup. We’ll then reassess things after that.”

A daughter of Zed, Trisha Lea has come to winning form with the onset of the wet tracks, which she struck at Awapuni two runs back before she followed up with victory at Wellington in the Trentham Gold Cup (2100m).

“Good horses show early and she won a trial when she was younger and it’s just been a case of waiting for maturity to kick in,” Little said.

She also has another bright winter prospect to look forward to in the coming weeks with the three-year-old Beltoy.

The Per Incanto filly had her first start for Little at New Plymouth last week and a commanding front-running performance under apprentice Madan Singh saw her rout her rivals by 11 lengths.

“She had won a trial nicely so she’s pretty exciting,” she said. “Her work had been very good and I wasn’t surprised she won, but I was surprised how much she won by.”

Beltoy spent her juvenile season with Woodville trainer Shane Brown and was twice a runner-up and fourth in the Listed Ryder Stakes (1200m) at Awapuni.
