Volpe Veloce’s quest for a Group One victory in Queensland to go with her domestic success at the top level is all going to plan.

Co-trainer Graham Richardson said the stable star had travelled well to Brisbane and was in grand order for her Australian debut at Doomben this weekend.

“We’re very happy with her, she’s well in herself and looking great.”

The winner of the Gr.1 Railway (1200m) at Ellerslie earlier this year before a break, Volpe Veloce resumed with a second placing behind the talented Love Affair, who was in receipt of four and a-half kilos, at Te Rapa last month.

Richardson said the timing of Saturday’s Gr.1 Kingsford-Smith Cup (1350m) was perfect for the daughter of Foxwedge, who will again be ridden by Jake Bayliss from barrier eight.

“She’s much better off with her races spaced out.”

With that in mind, Volpe Veloce is likely to make her following appearance in the Gr.1 Tatts Tiara (1400m) back at Doomben on June 23.

Stablemate Wildflower is also in prime condition for Saturday’s Gr.3 Premier’s Cup (2200m).

The Sir Peter Vela-owned Keeper mare has Group One placings in the Herbie Dyke Stakes (2000m) and the Auckland Cup (3200m) from her last two appearances.

“She won a trial at Deagon very well the other day and she also won a trial in New Zealand before she came over - she’s forward,” said Richardson, who trains in partnership with Gavin Parker.

“She looks well-placed on Saturday and there’s a lot of options for her after this.”
