The stakes-winner and multiple stakes placegetter Starvoia has been retired from racing and purchased by Waikato Stud.

Prepared at Balcairn by John and Karen Parsons, Starvoia won six of her 16 starts and was placed on a further six occasions.

A winner of the Listed Hazlett Stakes (1200m) on Boxing Day last year, Starvoia was stakes placed on five occasions.

The curtain came down on her racing career when she finished seventh with a slipped saddle at Wingatui last month.

“She was a top mare and we didn’t get to see the best of her,” Karen Parsons said. “She was unlucky a lot of the time.”

Starvoia is a daughter of Starcraft out of a half-sister to Gr.1 South Australian Oaks (2500m) winner Dowry.

The four-year-old mare retires to Waikato Stud, which coincidentally bred her five-time Group One winning sire Starcraft.
