Murray Baker and Andrew Forsman are happy to be biding their time with Highlad, one of the many black type winners of last season for the Cambridge trainers.

The son of High Chaparral was successful in the Listed Wanganui Guineas at his second start and was then sent to Melbourne; He ran a Listed placing before he was eighth in the Gr.1 VRC Derby and a subsequent domestic summer and autumn campaign went unrewarded.

Highlad was spelled and he returned in good style on Tuesday at the Te Teko trials where he won his 1200m heat.

“He’s coming up well and obviously he is one who favours a bit of cut in the ground,” Forsman said.

“There are no real plans just yet, we want to get him racing tractably and seeing the real horse step out.”
