Roger James has only got a handful of horses at current racing pitch and three of them have now won in the last four days.

The Cambridge trainer successfully produced Poker Face at Ruakaka last Saturday, Bonny Emilia the following day at Te Awamutu and at Pukekohe Park on Wednesday he struck with Hoof Hussler.

"I've only got four racing and the other one, Pythagoras, will run in about 10 days' time at Te Rapa," James said.

A patient ride from Troy Harris brought out the best in Hoof Hussler, who broke his maiden in the Ssangyong 2100 at his fourth appearance.

"He's a class rider and he timed his run pretty well," James said. "I think the horse has the makings of a fair stayer, he's not best-suited to these sort of tracks."
