Stakes-placed three-year-old Creative Genius bypassed today's Avondale meeting in favour of a start on Saturday week.

"He's not a heavy track horse so we'll wait for a Rating 75 over 1200m at Ruakaka and a better track," Byerley Park trainer Steven Cole said.

Creative Genius has won one of his eight starts and in the spring he finished third in the Listed Trevor Eagle Memorial at Ellerslie.

Meanwhile, Cole has retired Belial, one of his favourite horses.

"He gave me my first winner and he was a good, honest sort," he said. "We're looking for a nice home for him."
