The prospect of a sticky track holds more concerns for Cambridge trainer Andrew Forsman than Maygrove's 60kg equal topweight when assessing the Group Two winner's chances in Saturday's Listed Wanganui Cup.

Maygrove - Trish Dunell

The Authorized six-year-old was sent out a $2.80 favourite in last month's Gr.3 Rotorua Cup (2300m) on a holding heavy track and Forsman was wary that similar conditions could blunt the grey stayer's potency in the Civics @ Cambridge Thoroughbred Lodge-sponsored event.

"He was disappointing at Rotorua. He would have appreciated a bit of rain and a looser track and that's the one concern going into Wanganui," said Forsman, who trains in partnership with Murray Baker.

"We'd love to see a bit of rain for him before Saturday. But he's going really well. Matt [Cameron, jockey] came in this morning and galloped him and he was really happy with the way he's going."

Maygrove has become accustomed to carrying 60kg in handicap races this season and did finish second under that weight in the Listed Hawke's Bay Cup (2200m) three starts back behind Five To Midnight.

"He's carried big weights and won before and there's a bit of a tail to the race so that shouldn't worry him," Forsman said.

"But this is probably going to be his last run this time in. We'll put him aside and consider options for him in the spring."

The Baker-Forsman stable, which holds a stranglehold on the national trainers premiership with a 21-win lead over Stephen Autridge and Jamie Richards, will also produce promising two-year-old filly Electrode at Wanganui in the John Turkington Forestry Castletown Stakes (1200m).

The Pins filly was a trial winner at Te Awamutu before winning at the same venue last month.

"She was impressive when she won. She is stepping up to take on better company, but I'm sure she'll give it a good shot," Forsman said.

"She's still a slight, immature filly and she'll be a better three-year-old. This might be a bridge too far for her but on what she's shown so far, she deserves her opportunity."
