Auckland Cup runner-up El Pistola has been retired after fracturing a fetlock.

El Pistola - Trish Dunell

Bred by Frank and Faye Drummond and raced on lease by the Hoofit Bros Tokoroa Syndicate, El Pistola won four of her 30 starts and pushed Chenille to three-quarters of a length in the Gr.1 Auckland Cup (3200m) at Ellerslie in March.

She was second to Chocante in the Gr.3 Counties Cup (2100m) at Pukekohe earlier this season and won the Nathans Memorial (2200m) at Ellerslie last year for Tokoroa trainers Nathan Hanley and Kylie Whiting.

"We extended her racing lease twice. It was great to see her syndicate members having so much fun," said Frank Drummond, who stands El Pistola's sire El Hermano at his Cheval Stud at Pukeatua.

"Scans done yesterday revealed a fractured fetlock so she will return to Cheval Stud to join our broodmare band. Kylie and Nathan did a great job training her from their South Waikato base."
