Street Cry's well-performed son Telperion has joined the stallion roster at Westbury Stud.

Farm principal Gerry Harvey has purchased a significant interest in the Godolphin-bred colt, who was a high-class juvenile in Sydney.

Third on debut, he then won the Listed Lonhro Plate at the expense of the subsequent Group One winner Prized Icon and was fourth in the Gr.2 Skyline Stakes before he filled a similar placing in the Gr.1 Golden Slipper Stakes.

Telperion stormed home from the tail of the field and, in doing so, he recorded the fastest closing 600 metres of the race.

The handsome colt was then runner-up in the hands of James McDonald to the dual Group One winner Yankee Rose in the Sires' Produce Stakes at Randwick.

"One of the first people I rang about the horse was James and he said he's a beautiful animal, he was very, very complimentary," Westbury general manager Russell Warwick said.

"He had a serious turn of foot, a quality we look for in all of our stallions."

Timeform's end of season Australian ratings had Telperion fifth equal with Flying Artie with only Exquisite Choice, Capitalist, Yankee Rose and Kiss And Make Up rated above him and ahead of the Group One winners Prized Icon, Sacred Elixir, Astern, and Divine Prophet.

He is out of the Redoute's Choice mare Yavanna, herself a daughter of the Group Three winner Wild Queen, who is a half-sister to the Gr.2 Ascot Vale Stakes winner So Gorgeous and the family of the great matriarch Denise's Joy.

The cross between Street Cry and Redoute's Choice has been a notable one and responsible for eight stakes performers, including Group One winner Stay With Me.

Telperion will stand at a 2017 service fee of $5000 + GST, while a select number of lifetime breeding rights will be available to breeders.
