A leg injury suffered in a fall at trackwork on Wednesday morning has prematurely ended the season for comeback jockey Jason Waddell.

Waddell's manager Darryl Anderson has confirmed the talented rider will be back and raring to go leading into the new season.

"Jason was scheduled to have surgery anyway to remove a plate and some screws in his other leg, which he had broken playing soccer more than a year ago," Anderson said.

"He has decided to bring that surgery forward following the incident this morning.

"Jason has been delighted with the support he has received from owners and trainers since his return to the saddle and is pleased with the success he has had this season."

Waddell and his partner Anna Berg are expecting the birth of their second child in the coming weeks before taking a break in Berg's native Sweden.

Waddell is looking forward to renewing his association with multiple Group One winner Kawi at the Hawke's Bay Carnival in spring.
