An emphatic victory at Trentham has stamped exciting filly Jessiegee as one to watch in the staying ranks next season.

The daughter of well performed mare St Jessie is a half-sister to New Zealand St. Leger winner Rock On and looks to have inherited plenty of the family ability judging by the way she put her three-year-old rivals away with ease over 1600 metres on Saturday.

Settled at the rear of the five-horse field by rider Robbie Hannam, Jessiegee bided her time before unleashing a swooping run in the home straight which carried her to a comfortable one and quarter length victory. The win came off the back of a similar performance to score on debut at Tauherenikau with trainer Mike Breslin excited about what lies ahead for his charge.

"She is a filly who has always shown she can gallop but has taken time to strengthen up," he remarked.

"We gave her a trial back in October and she went far better than I expected given she was quite weak. We put her away and in this second prep she has really come on although she still has plenty of maturing left to do."

Breslin was confident the filly could measure up on Saturday despite being the least experienced runner in the contest.

"She won her maiden well so we were expecting a good run on Saturday and she delivered," he said.

"She relaxes nicely and has a really good turn of foot which she demonstrated as she rounded them up quickly in the run home.

"I think in time her best distance will be around the 2000 metre mark so if she can keep progressing as she has then you could see her in some of the better fillies and mares races next season."

Before then Breslin and owner and co-breeder Bill Gleeson have a decision to make over her immediate future.

"Bill is away at the moment so when he gets back we will sit down and have a think about where we go from here," advised Breslin.

"There isn't really anything coming up here for her so it might be best to put her away now. However, if she thrives over the next few days there is also a possibility we could shoot over to Melbourne for a race there.

"It really all depends on how she does and what Bill wants to do so nothing is confirmed for her at this stage."
