Regal Winks' trainers have put the filly's first defeat down to unsuitable track conditions.

The three-year-old beat the older horses in both of her first two starts before she finished fourth at Trentham on Saturday.

"The track was very, very sticky and she didn't handle it at all," said J.J. Rayner, who prepares the daughter of Rip Van Winkle with her father Evan.

"She's in the paddock now and she's going to be a really nice horse for the spring."
