Murray Baker would have been in a forgiving mood had Let Me Roar lost her unbeaten record at Tauranga.

The Cambridge horseman had concerns about the mare before Saturday's NZB Insurance Pearl Series Race, but he needn't have worried as the four-year-old proved a class above her rivals.

"She hadn't raced for 10 months and she hadn't had a trial," said Baker, who prepares Let Me Roar with Andrew Forsman.

"She was very, very vulnerable and I've got no doubt that she's going to be a stakes mare in time."

Raced by her co-breeders Windsor Park Stud, Let Me Roar won all four of her starts last season before she was side-lined following surgery to remove a bone chip.

The daughter of Rip Van Winkle followed the pace on the rail on Saturday before rider Jason Waddell eased off the fence 700 metres from home.

They challenged three wide at the top of the straight and Let Me Roar then cruised clear to win in a canter.

"She raced like a true professional and travelled well," Waddell said. "She made easy work of it and taught them a lesson."

He has no doubt that the half-sister to the ill-fated Lion Tamer, who was the dual Group One winner of the Underwood Stakes and the VRC Derby for Baker, can also make her mark at the elite level.

"I was a bit nervous and you always want to see these sort of horses carry on their winning way and she really put paid to them," he said.

"She's not even fully fit and she's a star in the making, she's a super horse," Waddell said.
