Best of British Weekly round up

This week we have been treated to one of the great carnivals on the calendar with the running of the 5day Glorious Goodwood festival, highlighted by 3 Group 1 races , this year saw a number of firsts achieved over the week.

Tuesdays Group 1 the Goodwood Cup over 2 moles saw one of Britain’s leading National Hunt trainers Alan King land his First Group1 winner on the flat with Trueshan (Plantuer), a big week for Alan as he also supplied Asymmetric (Showcasing) to win the Group 2 Richmond Stakes for 2yos.

Alcohol Free (No Nay Never) relished the wet conditions on Wednesday as she claimed a 3rd win at the elite level at just her 8th start, becoming the first 3yo Filly to win the Group 1 Sussex Stakes since 1992.

Kieran Shoemark further cemented 2021 as the best season he has ever had in the saddle when he finally got to call himself a Group 1 winning jockey with victory aboard Lady Bowthorpe (Nathaniel) in the Nassau Stakes for trainer William Jarvis who ended his own drought at the highest level after waiting 27 years since Grand Lodge won the St James Palace Stakes.

It was a week of mixed fortunes for Shadwells racing team as potential superstar Baaeed (Sea The Stars) took his record to 4 From 4 with a dominating win in the Group 3 Thoroughbred Stakes , while on the other side of the coin time was called on the glittering career of 4 time group 1 winner Baattash (Dark Angel). The 5 furlong specialist has struggled to recapture his best form as 7yo and bows out of racing with a record of 13 wins from 24 appearances.

The notable mention from the week goes to Ottoman Emperor , the staying 3yo made it 4 wins on end with his performance in the group 3 Gordon Stakes, the son of Excelebration is owned by OTI racing and could well be future cups contender in Australia
