Triple Group 1 winning three-year-old colt The Autumn Sun is to be spelled and will not race on over the 2018 Victoria Spring Carnival.

Trainer Chris Waller said on Tuesday morning that the Redoute's Choice colt, owned by Arrowfield Stud and Hong Kong based Hermitage, will be sent to spell with the aim of racing him in high profile targets in the autumn.

"No firm plans have been discussed in relation to his program for next year, however it will be our goal to ensure he is racing in elite company and ensuring his talent as a more mature colt is showcased to all racing fans," said Waller.

"The Autumn Sun is an incredibly exciting colt and I am very proud of his achievements in his short career to date. I do understand that there was a level of expectation to see him race again this spring, however my job is to ensure we see the best of what The Autumn Sun has to offer with longevity our primary concern when considering his immediate future.

"When you consider he had his first career start under six months ago and only had a short break between his winter and spring campaigns, it is in The Autumn Suns best interests to have a good spell now and be ready to return a fully mature colt in early 2019," he said

The Autumn Sun, bred by the Aga Khan Studs, won the first of his three Group 1's in the JJ Atkins Stakes over 1600m at Doomben on June 9th. He then took the Golden Rose over 1400m at Rosehill on September 22nd before demolishing the field by 4 1/2L in the Caulfield Guineas over 1600m at Caulfield last Saturday. He spells with five wins from six races and a third with stakes earnings of $2.3 million.
