New Zealand-bred Group One winner Aloisia had a quiet trial at Cranbourne on Monday and co-trainer Ciaron Maher revealed the daughter of Azamour was likely to be kept to shorter races this campaign.

“We’ve been quite soft on her and kept her nice and fresh,” Maher, who trains in partnership with David Eustace, said.

“She is carrying a bit more condition than usual and we are just going to keep her to the shorter trips this time around.

“She was nice and fresh and jumped well today and was just held together and she will probably have another trial in a fortnight. Today will bring her right on.”

Aloisia began her racing career in New Zealand under the care of Jason Price before transferring to Maher and subsequently won the Gr.1 Thousand Guineas (1600m) at Caulfield for trainer Aaron Purcell.

Having contested Oaks in Melbourne, Sydney, Adelaide and Brisbane last season, Aloisia is likely to resume in the Gr.2 Blazer Stakes (1400m) at Flemington on October 6.

“The idea is to kick her off at seven furlongs and we’ll aim to have her right for either the Myer or the Matriarch,” Maher said.
