Joe Pride is counting on fitness, a wet track and a one-dimensional approach to racing to carry My Psychiatrist a long way over an extended distance at Randwick on Saturday.

In a Stayers Cup where only two of the nine acceptors have raced over the 3200m, My Psychiatrist will be trying to win for the first in an indifferent campaign.

Pride put My Psychiatrist on notice after she produced the worst run of her 13-race career at Rosehill on May 20.

But she redeemed herself well enough in Pride’s eyes when fourth in the McKell Cup (2400m) at Randwick seven days later.

“She was obviously better on the back-up last week,” Pride said.

“She’s one-paced so maybe she can run two miles.

“This might be her opportunity to beat the boys and win a half decent race.

“She’s fit and well and should be one of the fitter horses in the race and the possibility of a wet track certainly won’t worry her.

“She just whacks away.”

After more than 50mm of rain in the 24 hours up to 7am on Wednesday, the Randwick track has been rated in the heavy range.

My Psychiatrist has opened on the fourth line of betting as an $8 chance with topweight Broadside the $2.30 Luxbet favourite.

While rain-affected going will help My Psychiatrist, the wet weather has come at some cost to Pride’s stable with the non-acceptance of I Am Zelady in the Listed June Stakes.

I Am Zelady isn’t at home in soft and heavy ground and Pride said he would give thought to returning the mare to Queensland for the Gai Waterhouse Classic on Saturday week.

Instead Pride will rely on Mr Manhattan who will be trying to keep a perfect second-up record after he was unplaced when resuming in a Listed sprint at Doomben.

Mr Manhattan is unbeaten in three starts when having his second run after a spell.

Santa Ana Lane, an acceptor at Flemington and Randwick, is the early favourite for the June Stakes.

After winning the Wagga Wagga Town Plate last month, Santa Ana Lane finished a close fifth in the Group One Goodwood at Morphettville.
