Champion Australian jumps jockey Steven Pateman has brought up his first winner as a trainer with Zagaya at Geelong yesterday.

Pateman was recently granted a dual rider-trainer licence and Zagaya was the first runner he saddled up when he finished third at Terang on March 2. A fifth placing at Warrnambool followed before his two and a half-length win at Geelong.

Pateman, who had another unplaced runner earlier on today's programme, said it was a relief to get his first win as a trainer on the board.

"My heart is still pumping and hopefully it's the first of many," Pateman told broadcaster Racing.com.

Zagaya is raced by Trevor Delroy of Wyadup Valley Farm in Western Australia.

"Obviously we naturally target jumpers, but he's giving us a chance with some flat horses so I'm very grateful to him," Pateman said.
