Jockey Linda Meech is looking forward to the Melbourne spring after riding Sircconi to an all-the-way win in VRC Sires' Produce Stakes at Flemington today.
Meech is convinced Sircconi will develop into a quality three-year-old over a longer distance following the breakthrough win at his third start. "A 2000 -etre three-year-old race is right up his alley," Meech said.
Sent out an $11 chance, Meech took Sircconi to the front and dictated the speed before scoring a short-half-head win over Aspect ($7).
"He's got no turn of foot but what he does have is he can maintain a high cruising speed," Meech said.
"And he's got the best attitude. He's like an eight-year-old in the head. He's such a beauty."
Trainer Peter Morgan will now contemplate taking the son of Nicconi to Sydney for some of the longer two-year-old races during the autumn carnival. And like Meech he's also looking forward to seeing Sircconi as a spring three-year-old.
"I was a little bit worried today," Morgan said. "He looked a little bit soft in the yard but it's a bit of a juggling act with two-year-olds."
Morgan praised Meech's ride on the colt. "I said to Linda don't wind it up too quick, just gradually wind it up and we might get away with it."
